The Self Love Challenge

I just spent the weekend looking at old photographs of myself and hearing sweet, fond memories shared by family, and it was enough to give me a boost in the ole endorphins and help me remember the person I used to be before society had its way with my self-image.

Recently I've been journaling one thing I love about myself each day, and I encourage you to try it as well.

Self-love truly is one of the most important things because it affects all relationships— your relationships with friends, family, the workplace, any deity you believe in. It immeasurably improves your life. And yet so many are unaware that they need to love themselves, unaware of the impact it can have, and unaware of how to do it. I’ve been practicing self-love for the past few days and it has made my relationship with my partner better and more vibrant, and improved my work-life, a space where I spend 8 hours a day and which can therefore make or break my day. Specifically I have been making myself mention one thing per day that I love about myself. It was hard at first, because my inner critic wanted to rebut every claim. “You’re not kind— remember that person you didn’t smile at?” As hard as it is to start, it’s worth it because it will give you confidence in who you are instead of getting you to focus on what you lack. And it gets easier, like a habit. Try it, you might like it. What do you have to lose?
